We are pleased to announce that Dr. Marco P. Cicero has joined Vemco MedEd as Director of
Scientific Affairs. In this capacity, he will serve as an internal and external science
consultant and medical reviewer for a variety of projects in diverse therapeutic
areas. He has been working over five years in the medical communications field and
has broad experience in the development and creation of promotional and continuing
medical education programs. Marco also brings with him extensive expertise in medical
writing and publication plan management. In addition to his in-depth scientific
knowledge, superb writing skills, and dedication to quality and accuracy in all
that he does, Marco has a level of professionalism and integrity that fits in well
with Vemco’s corporate mission.
After graduating from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, Marco received his PhD from the Department
of Microbiology at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. His dissertation project
looked at the protein-protein and protein-DNA interactions involved in viral gene expression using
genetics and molecular biology. Upon completing his doctorate, Marco accepted a postdoctoral position
at the University of Pennsylvania in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics. Working with approved
funding from the National Institutes of Health, he used molecular biology and X-ray crystallography to
understand the structure of proteins involved in gene expression.
Marco has published papers in many key peer-reviewed journals and has been a member of the American
Medical Writers Association since 2003.
